City of Strasburg riparian buffer sign

In the fall of 2020 I was asked to illustrate a riparian buffer for an educational sign located on a footpath in the city of Strasburg. I began sketching several different options, including an isometric version that included animal tracks on separate squares.

Ultimately they settled on a more traditional look. I took the approved rough sketch into Procreate and began painting it in.

The sky, fisherman and family of deer were added in Photoshop. Next I sketched and painted the various leaves and fruit trees local to the area for the detail panel.

The graphic designer then took my illustrations and laid out the sign, complete with educational text, animal tracks and various logos. It’s pretty surreal seeing something you’ve stared at on an iPad for months out in the “wild”. If you find yourself in the city of Strasburg, take a short walk down the Riverwalk and check it out.
